I'm gonna miss this

For the record, I have no musical talent whatsoever. I took 5 years of piano lessons and can still only play 'Turkey in the Straw'. I do enjoy singing hymns at church, but feel sorry for anyone sitting close enough to hear me. All that being said, nothing speaks more clearly to me than music. I love it. I love having my iPod playing all through my house all day. I love the way a song can set a mood. I like Beastie Boys when I'm running, Go-Go's when I'm cleaning, instrumental hymns on Sunday mornings, Jimmy Buffett when I'm praying for summer to come....etc.
Recently I came upon a song that is changing my life! Natalie turned me on to it and I listen to it at least once a day to try to remember what's important when I'd really like to give my boys each a swirly in the toilet and ship them off to potty boarding school. You know those days when you just want to jump in the car and drive away and not look back, but something called 'being a mom' holds you there? Listen to this song. Here's a little bit of the chorus:

Baby, just slow down
You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
Take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this.
As crazy as times get at our house, I'm trying to enjoy the madness. I'm positively terrified of teenagers (I'd like to thank my own brothers for that) and I want to keep perspective.

Potty training hell

Question: How many pairs of size 3T undies does it take to have my boys at your house for a playdate?
Answer: 4
In the two hours Luke and Adam were playing at their friends' house, they both peed their pants twice and Adam peed down their window well. I don't know what's worse, the fact that it happened or the fact that I'm sharing it online.

Gone Baby Gone

After weeks of anticipation, Cameron left this morning to visit my sister's family. Lacey has a daughter Ali, who is Cameron's same age and they love being together! My logical mind knows everything is going to be great and she's going to have so much fun, but there is something unnatural about sending my five year-old baby girl across the country without me! She is with my dad, who will take excellent care of her, but it still makes me nervous.

Truth be told, I'm a little scared to take on the boys without Cameron. She's my helper! I feel like a shepard without his sheep dog to keep the sheep in line. I've never had just two kids so this should be an interesting week. I'm going to be at lose ends without a sassy little girl to argue about clothes/dress-ups with!

Here is a picture of Cameron and Ali just a couple of months before Cam turned two. (The boys were about a month old!!!!) They are going to have so much fun together this week.

This is Cameron with Nana yesterday.
I've started calling my mom Nana Montana - aren't I clever??

Egg-stravaganza!

Saturday was a busy day for us Wimmers. We went to a neighborhood Easter egg hunt at 10 and then had Grandma and Grandpa over to dye some eggs at 11, then we had some friends over to barbecue at 12. It was crazy, but that's how we do it 'round these parts! Here are some cute pictures of the egg dyeing.

Nothing like three generations of eggers!

Yesterday the kids all had to wear their new church clothes. You can see how thrilled Luke was about having to wear a tie and jacket. I thought he'd be so excited to dress like Dad, but that was NOT the case.

At least Cameron and Adam liked their clothes. Luke was a tough egg to crack!

Blast from the past

I stole your post Rita! I liked this survey better than the other one I was working on.

Q: What television show or movie did you want to be in when you were little?
A: I wanted to be on Grease. The hair, the dress and most of all Summer Nights!!

Q: Which character or star?
A: For sure Sandy, except when she was getting her ears pierced.

Q. Most embarrassing moment your friends will never let die?
A. So many to choose from... My life has just been a series of embarrassing moments and I'm pretty sure that most of my friends could come up with a few.

Q: Your proudest moment or accomplishment?
A: Surviving parenthood (knock on wood) and the marathon.

Q: What adult did you have a crush on when you were little?
A: Danny Zuko.

Q: What habit or personality trait do you have of your mother?
A: The ability to just figure things out. My mom never waited around for someone else to fix the sprinklers, she just did it. She's really smart like that and I'd like to think that I am too!

Q: What did you want to change your name to when you were little?
A: Princess Consuela Banana Hammock. Not really, I stole that from an episode of Friends, I just couldn't think of anything.

Q: Who was your first kiss?
A: I never kissed anyone before Eric! (That's what he likes to think and we'll let him tell himself that.)

Q: What are 3 adjectives that someone from high school or middle school would use to describe you?
A: I have no idea! If you knew me in high school or middle school, let me know what I was like! They'd probably say I was slightly nerdy (without being all that smart), a goody-goody and tall.

Q: What hairstyle, clothes, or other accessories did you rock back in the day when it was cool? A: Banana clips, plastic t-shirt ties, scrunchies, bangs, LA Gear high tops, Girbaud jeans - all the good stuff.

Q: What job did those long and annoying surveys in school say you would be good at?
A: Probably a data research analyst or something as equally lame.

Q: And what did you try and make the test result outcome be?
A: Julia Roberts - I wanted her job.

Q: What made you laugh harder than you have ever laughed before?
A: Kayley and her focaccia are always good for a laugh. It's a long story and gets funnier every time. I LOVE YOU KAYLEY!!!

Q: Favorite memories of hanging out with your best friends?
A: "Has anyone seen my whipping cream?" - thanks Allison! Road trips, bunco, Desperate Housewives, running, Diet Coke runs...

Q: What is the most trouble you have ever gotten in with your parents?
A: While we were on a family vacation in St. George I sneaked out of a formal banquet that my dad and uncle were hosting. I went to Las Vegas with a guy. It wasn't even a guy I liked! I was in SO MUCH TROUBLE!

Q: What was your 5-year plan when you had to write it out in high school?
A: I thought I would go to dental hygiene school and marry my high school boyfriend. We see how well both of those things worked out...

Q: What is your 5-year plan now?
A: Survive. That's a little bit sad. I have no plan. I'll be doing the exact same thing five years from now, but if I'm still potty training I plan on driving off a cliff.

Back - by popular demand!

Okay, I'm sorry! It's good to know that someone misses me. I haven't felt like blogging lately. I was spending too much time on the computer and I started wondering why the heck I write. I'm having 'Martha' thoughts. (She's always wondering whether to blog or not to blog.)
I have started getting nervous and embarrassed when random people I run into know everything I've been up to. I'll start a conversation, "You'll never guess what happened to me at the movies!"
And a friend I haven't seen in months will say, "You drank someone elses drink?"
It freaks me out! I have nothing to add to chit-chat at bunco anymore. Everyone already knows the quirky inner workings of my mind. I used to say that it was a 'family journal' but let's be honest, this blog is about me. I get embarrassed when I read through all my old posts.
And people don't call me anymore. They know what's up and they know I can check their blog, so it gives a false sense of staying close. I miss my friends! Remember when we used to get together and eat and talk and talk and talk? Remember the good ol' telephone?

I want to be queen

In October 2005 I finally figured out what I want to do with my life. My father in-law had planned a family trip to London. He served his mission there about a hundred years ago and then hosted the BYU study abroad a couple of times. This was his big chance to show us around. I, however, was too stressed out about leaving my two year-old daughter and one year-old boys to get sufficiently excited about the trip. The thought of trekking around London in the rain while my aunt and mom took care of my kids didn’t sound all that appealing. But as Eric would say, ‘Don’t I have egg on my face!’
We were touring the Tower of London, seeing all the crown jewels when I discovered my heart’s true desire. I want to be the queen of England!!! I want to live in a castle and wear gowns. If I was the queen I would visit the Tower of London every morning and pick out a different piece of ridiculously expensive jewelry to wear and I would never be caught dead without a scepter in hand.
I practice my Brittish accent daily with Charlie and Lola (kids' favorite cartoon), my kids think I'm either really funny or really crazy, I can't quite tell which. I just finished watching the 20/20 Royal Family Special and I have renewed desire to wear a crown. Not to mention a renewed crush on Prince William but that’s another post entirely.
I guess this is a perfect time to bring up The Other Boleyn Girl. Don’t worry I won’t spoil the ending for anyone who hasn’t finished the book. (I meant that as a joke, but I do actually have a friend who doesn’t know the fate of the Boleyns. How can she not have learned that at some point?) Anyway, I loved the movie and I want a few of those dresses for my own collection to go with my scepter, of course. In a nutshell, the movie was great and the book was better! Go see it!
Long live the queen!!!
