Cam hits the slopes

Apparently time makes memories fade. For some of us. I remember endless, freezing cold days spent with snot frozen to my face and being so anxiety-ridden that I would pee my snow pants. My dad remembers it much more fondly I think. In any case, he and Glennie took Cameron skiing for her very first time today!

I have been slightly nervous for the last few weeks in anticipation of this little trip. I was worried Cameron would be cold and complaining (like her mother). For the life of me, I can't understand actually enjoying being outside in the winter. But my brave little girl had the time of her life. She keeps telling me that Glennie and Grandpa Bob thought she had been skiing lots of times before because she was so good! In so many ways Cameron and I are a lot alike. But certainly not on this issue. My talents lie elsewhere (like in the lodge with hot chocolate).
Cameron even got to have a sleepover with Abby and Nebo (Grandpa and Glennie's dogs)!

I love this picture. This is what I remember loving the very most about skiing. Thank you so much Grandpa and Glennie! We love you!

merry halloween

Luke decided to decorate the Christmas trees on his own.... I swear I only turned my back for about 3 seconds.

i am a builder

New house = new ward. New ward = loads of embarrassment as people get to know my nutty kids.
Today we were in primary practicing for the annual primary program. We were singing a song about building eternal families. The words are "I am a builder, building a family..." The cute chorister told the kids to get out their imaginary tools as they sang. All the kids pounded on one hand with the other like a hammer. Not my boys. They chose screwdrivers and sang/screamed "I am a SCREWER, SCREWING my family!"

recap

I guess I've fallen off the blogging bandwagon. But I thought I would just do a super quick recap.
We moved. Here's our new house.

Eric hosted a Vikings game at our house because he was so excited about Favre. Don't you love his decorating skills?
Here is Cameron and her friend Gracie getting ready to go trick-or-treating.

And this is my family. Isn't my husband hot? And please don't mind Luke, wearing the same costume for the third year in a row. It's a little snug.

Eric and I were invited to a Halloween party in our new neighborhood. It was a total blast with full costumes, Fear Factor, dancing and lots of good food. And the friends aren't too shabby either.
Eric and I went as 70's vice cops. We really wanted to be like the Beastie Boys in the Sabotage video, but I'm not sure we got it quite right. It's not really the most comfortable feeling in the world to be wearing a fake moustache while trying to get to know new people...

popular peace prize

My kids have discovered the soundtrack to Wicked. (Thanks a lot Peen!) After hearing the song Popular at least 500 times, I realized that one verse of the song was likely written for Obama. It all just became so obvious in light of his Nobel Peace Prize.

Think of celebrated heads of state,
Or specially great communicators!
Did they have brains or knowledge?
Don't make me laugh!
They were POPULAR!
Please!
It's all about popular.
It's not about aptitude,
It's the way you're viewed,
So it's very shrewd to be,
Very very popular like ME!

the obsession continues....

The obsession with Halloween continues at the Wimmer household. We sent out Halloween cards instead of Christmas cards this year. I'm sorry if you didn't get one. I didn't order enough cards and ran out about half way through my list. But here is our current family picture.

And this one more accurately depicts our family. The costumes were obviously spontaneous.

project

Having a little bit of free time everyday has done wonders for my sanity. I find myself just driving around and stopping at local boutique shops and admiring all the cool stuff. I found a really neat antique door that had been refurbished into a coat rack that I fell in love with. I visited it a few times and decided that $300 was too much to spend.
So yesterday I dragged two of my friends with me to DI and found a door that would work. Look what I made!

I went to a local antique shop and found this cool doorknob.

Went to Rod Works for some hooks...
And now I have my own coat rack and it only cost me $16 for everything! Pretty cute huh?

'Tis the season

My kids love Halloween more than any other time of year. I like it because it makes it socially acceptable to have skeletons on the mantel (which my kids insist on). Just wait till our new neighbors figure out that we celebrate year-round....

RIP Hobo Joe

Hobo Joe is dead.
Warning to all creepy, slithering creatures: The Wimmer children are not afraid. They will shake, squeeze, bite, poke, wash with hand sanitizer or otherwise torture until death.

Hobo Joe

Meet the latest member of the Wimmer family, Hobo Joe.

Along with the idealistic garden, our new home has a few unwelcome friends. We've found a few snakes outside, but this little guy was on our hearth, inside our house, this morning. I called the exterminator right away and they told me to catch it so the spiderman could identify the species. So I put him into a mason jar and the kids quickly named him Hobo Joe. Spiderman did come and spray some major pesticides to specifically kill hobos. I still have the creepy crawlies though. I can't quite relax on the couch.

Don't worry, the kids are trying their best to give him 'shaken spidy' syndrome. Eric has yet to meet Hobo Joe so we're hoping he (spider) survives long enough for Eric to come home.

Happy Valley Harvest

Growing up in Salt Lake, I always had this snobbish view of Utah County. We thought it was oddly religious and a hick town. It was a little bit hard for me when I moved to Lehi because I felt like a big hypocrite. But after living there for almost five years, I realized I really liked it.
Now we have moved even further into Happy Valley to a quaint little town called Pleasant Grove. I have discovered why they call it Happy Valley. It is so much fun living here! We live on a quiet street and the most frequent traffic we get is kids on bikes or farmers on tractors. One such farmer knocked on my door last Sunday and had me grab a bag and come outside to his tractor to pick out my weekly produce. I got corn on the cob and tomatoes....for free! He just gave it to me!
Last night we walked over to the school for the annual PTA carnival. The kids had a blast and we got to meet lots of neighbors and ran into old friends. The kids got to dunk Eric at the dunking booth and got to eat their own weight in sweets.
In my yard I have lots of fruit trees and a strawberry patch. We've had apple crisp and loads of fresh strawberries. And the sweet farmer who owns the land across the street allows everyone to have a community garden on his property. So in our section we have corn, pumpkins, sweet tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapenos, carrots, cabbage, zucchini, squash, butternut squash, peas, beans, broccoli and probably even more that I haven't gotten to yet. I have found that I am completely in my element digging in the dirt. I was born to live on a farm! Who knew? Here are some of my harvest pictures.

distractions

I stole this one from Alison's Facebook. I am really lacking anything interesting to blog about these days. It's not very interesting, just something to pass the night away....

Do you think its stupid for teenage girls to use birth control?
No. If you're going to be sexually active, you MUST be responsible about it.

Does anyone know your MySpace password?
I don't MySpace.

What are you thinking about right now?
I'm trying really hard to not think about everything I have to do to move this weekend.

Do you believe in love?
Yes.

Did you mean it when you said "I love you" last?
Yes.

Do you wish your ex would just die in a hole?
I with that Eric's ex would just die in a hole. None of my exes are very threatening.

What is the latest you've stayed up in the past week?
1:00 am waiting for my nephew to get home. We were watching them last weekend.

When is the last time you hugged someone?
When I put Cameron to bed about a half an hour ago.

Are you nice to everyone?
Pretty much. Sometimes I wish I was better about standing up for myself.

Where's the last place you went besides your house?
Wendy's drive-thru

Do you understand football?
No. I hate it. I hate the commentators the most and I hate the athletes too. Hate it!

No.

What do you sleep in?
Sexy lingerie....hahaha! Usually in sweats and an old Texas Rangers t-shirt.

What would you do if you found out the world was ending in one week?
Spend money like there's no tomorrow! And spend time with family and friends yada, yada, yada...

Do scary movies make you paranoid when you watch them alone?
I never watch scary movies by myself! Eric makes me watch them with him sometimes but I don't love it.

How's your life lately?
So stressful.

What was on your mind mostly today?
Closing on the house.

What did you do today?
Got Cameron up, drove her to school in Pleasant Grove, drove back to Sandy, got the boys ready for school, drove them to school in Pleasant Grove, drove home again, sat on the phone with the Pods people for an hour, scheduled all our utilities to be switched, closed on the house, went to the bank, drove back to Pleasant Grove to pick up the kids at my brother in-law's house, drove back to Sandy AGAIN, started packing stuff up and now wasting time on the computer.

When you say you don't care, do you mean it?
Usually. If I do care, I don't see the point in saying I don't.

Do you dumb yourself down to impress the opposite sex?
Never. That is such a peeve of mine.

Do you wear makeup every day?
I can't even get showered every day - probably half the time I wear makeup.

One of my very favorites.

Can you live without your cell phone?
Yes and I often do. I hate being so accessible to everyone.

Yup. I'm an emotional wreck today.

J Crew

Is there something that reminds you of someone every time you see/hear it?
Yes, every time I make toast I think of my grandpa. "Come on toast!"

The entire housing market. They want you to buy but make it nearly impossible to get a loan. I am truly baffled.

No. My kids are all in school, I moved and had a few other life altering things in the last year.

Have you ever thought about getting your nose pierced?
No.

If you could change your eye color would you?
No. I like my green eyes.

Do you think someone is thinking about you?
Yes. Eric says it's his hobby to think about me so I'm sure he is right now!

How did you wake up this morning?
To my kids screaming about passing off a level of Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii. They got up at 6:30 am to play it.

What were you doing at seven this morning?
Laying in bed, trying to tune out the overly chipper children.

Would you be able to date someone who doesn't make you laugh?
Never.

Would you say that you are emotionally strong?
Not this week.

Is there someone you'd really like to hang out with?

Yea and it's a pretty sight...

Are you planning to go see a movie anytime soon?
No plans right now, but I'm sure I will soon.

Vaguely...just kidding, Eric!

Are you nice?
Most of the time but I have my moments.

Do you like roller coasters?
Yes.

Ever cried while you were on the phone with someone?
Duh. Yes.

Yes.

Does anyone call you babe or baby?
Eric only calls me that jokingly. But I call all of my kids baby.

How's your most recent ex doing?
I don't know.

If your boyfriend or girlfriend was into drugs, would you care?
I'd care if it was my husband but not so much about my boyfriend on the side.... ;)

Do you always find it cute when a girl/guy calls you babe/baby?
No. Corny.

The last person you kissed, how many times have you cried in front of them?
Many, many times and it's usually because he peed his pants. (Again, Adam not Eric)

What would happen if you had a baby with the last person you kissed?
Clearly this quiz is intended for people who don't have kids that they tuck in at night. If I had a baby with Adam, I'm pretty sure I'd go to jail.

Were you smiling in the last picture taken of you?
Yes and I was juggling Luke in my arms and trying not to fall down the stairs.

Are you happy with the way things are going?
Yes. It's been a really tough road for the last several months but I do feel like we're headed in the right direction.

Do you like being tickled?
No.

Are you dying to take off your clothes?
Um no.

Do you like sushi?
No. And I have a theory that Utahans, in general, don't like it either. People just say they like it to sound cool. Raw fish? Ridiculous.

Last time you saw your dad?
Last week but I know he stopped by here today to bring me some bolt cutters. He's riding in Lotoja this weekend. GO DAD!!

What's your favorite color gummy bear?

Easy going or up-tight?
A little of both

Yes, we drove about 10 miles like that. I was laughing so hard I could barely drive. Gotta love Gracee!

Buh-Bye

Here they are, ready for the first day.

Quickly the situation turned to panic for Adam. Luke was cool as a cucumber.

I walked them over to where they need to line up. Adam's nerves morphed into terrified shrieks. I got Luke in line with his class and turned my attention to Adam but he was nowhere to be found. Gone. I was scanning the masses of Kindergartners and parents and realized that he probably went back to the car. So I ran back through the parking lot and spotted him near the playground hiding behind a big tree. I had to chase him down but when I caught him he was hanging onto me with strength I didn't know he possessed. I had to walk him into the school where his screaming echoed down the hallways like a horror movie. His teacher had to physically pry him off my body and take him into his classroom. I bolted. Like a bat out of hell. Like a prisoner out of jail. By the time I got to the car I was sweating bullets and emotional. But free at last!
Eric picked the kids up after school and he got this picture of them coming out to the car. This was not posed. They actually came out of the school all holding hands. Ahhh, cuuuute.

The other night Eric was talking to Cameron about school and they had this little conversation:
Eric: "Cam, I bet you're the smartest kid in the class!"
Cam: "Nope, you are wrong Dad. There's another girl who is way smarter than me."
Eric: "How do you know that?"
Cam: "Because she did Kindergarten TWICE!"

WHY ME???

This morning Eric so kindly offered to take Cameron to school so I didn't have to make the trek to Pleasant Grove AGAIN. I got her all ready and went to walk them out to the car and we realized that the garage had been left open all night. And my purse was gone. Stolen right out of the front seat of my car! I was freaked out but needed to keep my cool for the kids. I sent Eric and Cameron on their way, called the police and then called my mom. She saved the day by taking the boys away.
I spent the day canceling cards, tracking down alternate forms of ID, getting a new drivers license (which by the way, is by far the ugliest picture I have ever had taken because I'd been crying). I was emotionally spent by about 1:00. I asked the boys to go to the basement and have some quite time so I could lay down for a minute. Within just a few minutes Adam came running up the stairs saying that there was a broken window in the basement. A completely shattered french door to be exact. I don't know how on earth I didn't notice it sooner, but again I called the police.
I have never really been a scared person. I am used to being alone when Eric travels and I'm not wimpy about it at all. But this has me scared. Really scared. My kids' bedrooms are in the basement. What if this burglar had gotten into the house? Why do I have worse luck than most people I know?
I guess the silver lining in all of this is that I get to buy a new purse. There are few things in life that make me happier than a really great new bag.

It's the most wonderful time of the year

Cameron started school again today. She was so excited to be going all day long and even eating lunch at school. And I am glad that she is busy all day doing anything other than bossing her brothers around.
For me the excitement has only been slightly dampened by the drive to and from Pleasant Grove twice daily. We enrolled her in school thinking that we would have moved into our house by now. But we still haven't closed. We will likely be moving the first week in September. Cross your fingers because we're finding that buying a house isn't quite as simple as it used to be.
Anyway, we are so happy that Cameron has started the first grade! I feel so OLD!

Eric just shaved a moustache and thinks he's wearing it to the new ward tomorrow. I am officially married to Officer Dangle. I swear his purpose in life is to annoy me.

the Uintas

We just got back from camping in the Uintas with Grandpa Bob and Glennie. We had such a great time. The kids finally got to spend the night in a camper. They've been talking about it for years. Eric got to fish and each of the kids got to 'catch a fish'. Adam turned out to be our best fisherman. He was the only one who had enough patience to sit and watch Eric cast line after line. He was very disappointed that he didn't catch a salmon to eat.
Cameron and Luke spent the whole time wrestling each other. Cameron said her favorite part was watching the shooting stars. Adam said his favorite part was his "really great nap" in the car. Luke loved finding a severed fish head on the beach.
I loved the bacon for breakfast, mountain biking and just sitting around with nothing to do. Grandpa and Glennie took the kids on little adventures and it was a very much-needed break for me.

Here is Adam with his first fish!

You can tell by the pictures that Cameron did not enjoy fishing as much as her dad and brother.

Adam and Luke were in heaven with so many sticks to swing at each other.

Grandpa and Luke on the raft

Adam and Glennie

We sat around the campfire and tried to stay awake for the meteor shower, but the boys didn't last long enough. Please ignore the pretty glasses.

close quarters

We are all settled into a townhome in Sandy. Many thanks to my aunt, Puffy, for letting us stay here. It's a little strange to be in a new place. The kids don't have any friends and have been playing non-stop with each other. Adam and Luke are sharing a bed again. Eric and I are trying to sleep in the same bed... a full-size bed. Usually one of us ends up on a mattress in Cameron's room. Eric is working in a half bathroom that has been converted into an office. We are so happy to have somewhere so nice to stay even if it is close quarters.
The good news is that we found a house! It's not a short sale or a foreclosure so we are able to move before school starts. We are so excited! Now we are able to sit back and enjoy the next few weeks of summer and living where we have a pool. I can breathe again. Life is good.

It's like they never left the womb.

Pioneer Day

We spent Pioneer Day like true pioneers - moving and watching tv without Tivo. We have officially sold our house and moved to a townhome in Sandy. It's been a crazy few days. But here's the amazing part, I actually have a bit of free time now that we don't have Tivo. I have to sit through commercials! I actually have to sit here for 2 hours for the Bachelorette. I cannot understand, for the life of me, how anyone can stand to watch ANYTHING for two full hours with commercials. But on the flip side, I'm blogging during the break. So, Ed or Kiptyn?

bucket list

I have always envied my friend Kayley because she has so many things that she wants to do in life. She wanted to run a marathon in Hawaii and I was lucky enough to get to do that with her. She wanted to swim with Great White Sharks and she did that. Her list is long and already has check marks all over the place. I'm jealous.
My list of to-do's consists of: eat a waffle, take kids to school, pick up dry cleaning, get oil changed, pick kids up after school, make dinner (never with a check mark next to it), bathe kids, put kids in bed. I could just photocopy that list and use it everyday for the rest of my life.
I am going to be 30 on Sunday. 30? 30? 30! Why do I still feel like I'm 17? I've always thought that I didn't care about age, but this whole 30 thing has me freaked out. Just for fun, I want to compile a bucket list for myself and I need your help. I've been doing some online research and most people have a list of thirty things to do before you turn thirty, but they've been working on it since they were twenty something. Seeing that I only have 5 days till D-day and I will never jump out of a plane or eat earthworms or climb Everest, help me come up with a good list.
Specify whether the thing should be done before Sunday or before I'm 40.
Please do this for me - if you are reading this blog than you owe me a present anyway because of the whole eBFF thing. I'm expecting lots of comments. Thanks!!!

he likes me

I have so much to blog about. Molly's birthday, Luke's birthday, Adam's birthday, boating, Houston and the list goes on.... But my house is a wreck because of moving chaos and I just haven't had time. But I am in love with this picture of Adam and me. I had to share. Moments like this make all the daily grind worth it. "He likes me. He really likes me!"

wistful

It's in cement. We lived here. We poured the cement for the patio before the boys first birthday. They were so little they couldn't keep their hands open wide enough for a good hand print, hence the footprints. I'm just feeling nostalgic about moving.
The kids are unpacking the boxes faster than I can seem to pack them. It's sad to put our things into boxes not knowing when we'll open the boxes again. We have put in an offer on a house, but it takes forever with these banks so it will be a while before we know one way or another. Everyone keeps telling us that it's a good time to buy, but I'm not convinced yet.

Miss Teen Utah-World

Hurray for my little sister, Gracee! She is Miss Teen Utah-World. She's competing at nationals in Houston this week. She's never done a pageant in her life, so this will be a fun and new experience for her. And I get to go watch! Love you G-Money!

family

Because we are so blessed in our families to have several fathers, we get to celebrate Father's Day a couple of times. On Sunday we celebrated with the Blodgett side of the family. It's such fun to get everyone together. Special thanks to Robby for taking so many pictures because, of course, I never have my camera with me.
Not only were we celebrating Father's Day, but also Jeff's graduation, Andy's b-day, Tyson's b-day, Lyndsey's b-day, Adam's b-day, Luke's b-day, Eric's b-day and mine too! Lyndsey made the best cake I have ever tasted in my whole life. I made some really awesome ice water....such are my cooking skills.

Some people might say that we came from a broken home or a blended family or that we are products of failed marriages. It is quite the contrary. We are family, plain and simple. My siblings and I are loved by each other and all of our parents beyond measure. Our lives would not be complete without our big family. I am grateful to all my parents for setting good examples of strength and happiness and most importantly, togetherness.
