Honest

I have been told several times that the nice thing about my blog is that it's honest. This morning as I was talking to Aunt Puffy on the phone, I went upstairs to find that my kids had emptied their dressers and closets and made a giant clothes pile on the floor in the hallway. Puffy got an earful as I started directing traffic for time-outs and cleanup efforts amid screaming "What were you thinking?"
She was laughing and said, "From your blog, you'd think it was just a delight to be with them. You know, the perfect day at Sea World and all."
It seems that I have forgotten to mention the fatal five minutes that made my mind up that we were leaving San Diego on Friday instead of Saturday like we'd planned. So, in an effort to remain brutally honest, here's the truth.
Friday morning at Brett and Melissa's house was going along nicely until I went upstairs and discovered that my boys had red rings around their mouths and a nearly empty bottle of NyQuil. I went into full-blown freak out mode. I went into the guest room to see that luckily a good portion on the medicine was spilled on the rug and carpet. (Not sure if that's considered lucky, but at least all of it wasn't in their tummy.) I ran to the bathroom to get a wet towel to start scrubbing the carpet and found my boys had already thought to get a towel, and in their haste, pulled down the towel rack. Yes, pulled it off the wall. Then I saw Melissa come around the corner holding up a fish bowl for inspection. Dead fish. Missing fins. Very morbid.
I'm not kidding when I say that all of this happened in about 4 minutes. That's when I decided that we'd all had enough vacationing and it was time to go home. I was tired anyway, but this all pushed me over the edge. Besides, when better to start on a LONG drive than right after your kids take loads of NyQuil?

It is SO funny when it is someone else's kids! And it makes me happy to know that my kids are not the only terrors; it must come with their age! Can you laugh about it yet or are you still frazzled?!
